India’s former PM Manmohan Singh dies aged 92

Indian Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92, passed away on Thursday evening.

According to a press release from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Dr. Singh was being treated for age-related medical conditions when he experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at his residence.

According to an official statement from AIIMS, Dr. Singh suffered a sudden loss of consciousness at his residence on the morning of December 26. Resuscitative measures were initiated immediately, and he was rushed to the emergency department at 8:06 PM. Despite all medical efforts, Dr. Singh was declared dead at 9:51 PM.

“With profound grief, we inform the demise of the former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had a sudden loss of consciousness at home. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived,” the AIIMS statement read.

Dr. Singh, born on September 26, 1932, in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India, served as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Renowned for his intellectual prowess and integrity, Singh was instrumental in steering the country’s economic reforms as the Finance Minister under the PV Narasimha Rao government in 1991.

He also held several key positions, including Chief Economic Advisor in 1972 and Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year in April, concluding a 33-year tenure in the Upper House.

Tributes have poured in from across the nation as leaders and citizens mourn the loss of a statesman who dedicated his life to the service of India.
