Kathmandu, Sept. 23: Remaining unbeaten in six matches, the Nepal Police Club (NPC) won the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Club Championship 2024 held in Male, Maldives. The NPC defeated Uzbeikstan’s Humo Volleyball Club in three consecutive sets Saturday night to lift the trophy.
Humo VC, which was looking for revenge against the NPC, was unable to win a single set. NPC had defeated Humo in the duo’s first encounter of the tournament on September 15.
The NPC won the first set with a comfortable margin (25-16) while the remaining two sets were a little tough for the winners. The NPC won the second and third sets by the score of 25-22 and 25-23 respectively.
From a score of 24-19 in the third set, Humo was able to take the score to 24-23. However, the NPC did not allow Humo to take the match to more sets.
Usha Bhandari has been named Most Valuable Players in the event. She also was adjudged best outside hitter. Sumitra Regmi was named Best Middle Blocker while Shanti Kala Tamang was declared Best Libero of the tournament.
The NPC had entered the championship with the regular players – Usha Bhandari, Punam Chand, Kamana Bista and Shantikala Tamang. The club had also procured national players – Saraswati Chaudhary, Niruta Thagunna and Sumitra Regmi – for the tournament.
