Kathmandu, July 2 – President Ram Chandra Paudel held a courtesy meeting with the Chief of all Seven Provinces, including Gandaki Province Chief Dilli Raj Bhatta, at the Presidential Residence, Sheetal Niwas, on Wednesday morning.

During the meeting, the provincial chiefs briefed the President on the overall political, social, and economic situation of their respective provinces. The attendees included Koshi Province Chief Parashuram Khapung, Madhesh Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari, Bagmati Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota, Lumbini Province Chief Krishna Bahadur Gharti Magar, Karnali Province Chief Yagya Raj Joshi, and Sudurpaschim Province Chief Najir Miya.

The provincial chiefs also shared the challenges they have faced in their roles, highlighting ambiguities in laws and regulations. They requested President Paudel to draw the attention of the concerned authorities toward resolving these issues.

President Paudel, in response, emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination and cooperation among the provinces. He reiterated that the success of the provinces is directly tied to the success of Nepal’s federal democratic republic.

“The provinces are the foundation for institutionalizing the achievements of our past movements,” the President stated. “A strong province ensures a strong federal system. The effective formulation and sincere implementation of laws at the federal, provincial, and local levels are essential to realizing the spirit and legitimacy of our Constitution.”

President Paudel further remarked that provincial chiefs are not only the heads of their provinces but also representatives of the central government. As such, they serve as a vital bridge between the federal and provincial levels.

“In that context, there must be continuous contact, dialogue, and coordination between the President and the provincial heads,” he added. “The political significance of the provinces is not determined merely by their structure. It is crucial to make them citizen-oriented, inclusive, and governed by good practices. Change in character is essential. Let us link political achievements to the everyday lives of our citizens.”

He also advocated for healthy competition between provinces, while promoting inter-provincial cooperation. “I believe that mutual cooperation will benefit everyone,” he said.

Stressing the need to maximize internal resources for regional development, President Paudel encouraged each province to carve out its unique identity and development path. “Since respect, dignity, and prosperity of the citizens are paramount, provincial leaders must work with a focus on the holistic development of their provinces,” he concluded.
